- ENIAC: 20 digits × 10 registers = 200 decimal digit equivalents. Assuming 1 decimal digit ≈ 0.055 bytes (approx 4-bit) → 200 × 0.055 = 11 bytes (exact: 20 × 10 × 0.055 = 11)
- But better: if 1 register = 20 digits = 200 bits = 25 bytes, then 10 registers = 10 × 25 = <<10*25=250>>250 bytes
- Improved system: 16 registers × 2 bytes each = <<16*2=32>>32 bytes
- But question asks how many bytes the ENIAC uses — assuming phrased as direct: ENIAC uses 250 bytes (20 digits × 10 registers × 0.055 ≈ 11)? Wait — standard interpretation: ENIAC’s memory equivalent:
- Use: 20 digits ≈ 20 × 4 = 80 bits per register → 8 bytes
- registers → 10 × 8 = 80 bytes per register? Too high.
